Un nouvelle surprise trouvée par hassard dans Flikr : le fonds des stéreogrammes de la bibliothèque publique d'Omaha a été numérisé et publié sur Flickr pour que les internautes viennent en son aide pour ajouter des titres et des tags sur les images. Ce n'est pas la première fois qu'une bibliothèque fait cela, mais c'est la première fois que je vois des photographies de la Suisse et d'Espagne de 1908. N'hésitez pas, si vous avez le temps pendant ces fêtes vous pouvez voyager dans le temps et les aider à donner les bons noms aux images qui atendent… il suffit de loucher très fort les yeux pour que ces images trouvent de nouveau vie dans nos cervaux 100 ans après avoir été prises par un riche américain qui a parcouru l'éurope. Cela vaut le mal de tête, je vous l'assure!!!

To improve keyword access for users, NLM will now copy tables of contents (TOC) and summary notes available from the Library of Congress 856 links into the bibliographic records. The TOC will be added to the local MARC21 field 595 (unedited tables of contents) and the summaries to the 520 field. There will be no attempt to formulate these with ISBD (International Standard Bibliographic Description) punctuation, or do anything but the most minimal cleanup to the 595 field. The data will be preceded by the phrase: “Publisher-supplied data.” After the text is copied into the record from the LC 856 link, the 856 will be deleted. […]”

“From HTML to RDF: Enhancing the structure of web documents
Many of the documents currently populating the Web have HTML structures casual enough to be slandered as “tag soup”. The RDF (Resource Description Framework) defines a more highly structured web document based on XML (Extensible Markup Language). Large pools of RDF documents are now available in open web space and are part of the emerging “structured web” or “data web” or “linked data web”. The Semantic Web Education and Outreach Interest Group (SWEO) lists currently available RDF data sets, as well as data sets that can be dynamically RDFized, RDF dumps, and desiderata list of data sets to be RDFed and mounted to the Web. The LOD homepage estimates that the linked data web comprises two billion RDF documents in October 2008.[…]”

Les médias numériques et le développement des techniques de communication sont de nouveaux défis pour la conservation et la diffusion du patrimoine culturel. L’Office fédéral de la culture est attentif aux potentialités et aux changements que va apporter l’ère numérique. Entre février 2007 et mars 2008, l’OFC a mené de vastes enquêtes auprès des principales institutions dépositaires de la mémoire (archives, bibliothèques, musées) et des organisations intéressées par la mémopolitique. […]Le rapport définit quels vont être les principes d’une politique fédérale de la mémoire et propose des mesures pour étudier et sauvegarder le patrimoine audiovisuel et les publications électroniques. Sauver les Å“uvres d’une destruction imminente est une priorité culturelle qui passe avant la numérisation de fonds déjà répertoriés.[…]”

Voici le site des Archives du Journal de Genève, j'ai enfin pu tester ce qui était annoncé depuis des années au salon du livre et je dois dire que le résultat est assez plaisant, l'OCR semble bien fait et la recherche marche bien et elle est rapide. Tous les articles sont découpés en petits morceaux ce qui permet un affichage des extraits pour chaque occurence de notre recherche. Allez-y et testez vite, peut-être trouverez vous des choses intéressantes sur vos ancetres!!!

“Genève - La collection complète du “Journal de Genève” est désormais accessible gratuitement sur Internet. Dans le cadre de son 10e anniversaire, son successeur, “Le Temps”, a mis en ligne les deux millions d'articles composant les archives de feu le quotidien genevois.
Les internautes ont libre accès depuis jeudi au corpus du “Journal de Genève” qui compte 172 années de parution (1826-1998) et 550'000 pages imprimées. Ils peuvent naviguer sur l'ensemble des contenus (articles, images et annonces publicitaires), a annoncé “Le Temps”.
Pour la première fois en Suisse, la totalité des archives historiques d'un quotidien francophone est numérisée, souligne le quotidien. En Suisse alémanique, seule la “Neue Zürcher Zeitung” a fait la démarche mais ses archives ne sont pas ouvertes au grand public, a précisé Virginie Fortun, directrice du projet au “Temps”.[…]”

“Nintendo, the Japanese video games company that brought us Donkey Kong and Mario the Plumber, is to announce a deal with the publisher HarperCollins today to make literary classics available to read on its DS portable games consoles.[…]”
The 100 Classic Book Collection ranges from Shakespeare and Dickens to Jane Austen and the Brontë sisters. It will cost about £20 and will be available initially only in Britain.
Readers will turn the pages by brushing a finger across the screen. If the collection is a success, Nintendo may expand the range of books available.
Other technology giants are trying to gain the upper hand in the rush towards reading books on screen. The Sony Reader, which can hold about 160 titles, was released in September. Users can choose from thousands of titles to down-load from Waterstones’ website

“The German Federal Archives has provided online encyclopedia Wikipedia with 100,000 historical images for free public access. The images were made available to the Wikimedia Commons page, a database of over three million freely usable media files, from Thursday, Dec. 4. The donated pictures cover periods such as the Weimar Republic, the German colonial era, the Third Reich and Germany after reunification. It was the largest donation of media to the Commons page since it was set up in September 2004.[…] A spokesperson for Wikipedia said the “unique historical material” would enhance many of the online lexicon's 10 million articles. The names and places attached to each of the 100,000 photos will be linked to the German Wikipedia Persondata and the German National Library for easier navigability. The Federal Archives keeps approximately 11 million still pictures, aerial photographs and posters from modern German history dating back to around the 1860s.”
